This ten-minute video stars Yamuna Zake, founder of Yamuna Body Rolling. I have done a little online investigation. She is a yoga instructor who wanted her students to be able to release the tension in their muscles in order to facilitate proper positioning during yoga, sports and life in general. This DVD shows a person how to use "Foot Savers." Foot Savers are small, plastic hemispheres which are placed on the floor, in order to do myofascial release on the foot muscles. This is a form of self-massage.Ms. Zake talks several students through a basic exercise, as she gives them corrections (with closeups). The exact position of the foot, ankle & leg over the Foot Savers is very important. Ms. Zake points out the proper position during each phase of the exercise. There is only the *one* exercise on the video, which is a crucial one, in that it has the Foot Saver user systematically go over the entire sole of the foot to stretch the muscles. I wish there had been some suggestions of other exercises to do with the device, but I am sure that with some experimentation, I will be able to discover what makes my feet feel good. The Foot Savers are essential to this exercise, since a golf ball will roll, and is of a smaller diameter. There are also Foot Wakers, larger, softer, nubby hemispheres that are used in a similar way, and as a gentler version, are probably the better starting point for most people.UPDATE - Aug, 2015I have discovered another use for the foot savers, besides foot massage. I use it on the couch, along with a tennis ball, to massage the backs of my thighs and around the pelvis area. I place one foot saver hemisphere on the couch and then stack a tennis ball on top of it. This allows for some sideways force on the muscles. The tennis ball wants to roll "downhill," but by applying a sideways force on it with one of my legs, I can relax and watch TV while doing some "body rolling" techniques. I haven't yet tried this foot saver + tennis ball technique on my neck or upper back, but I think that would work also. The secret is the sideways force imparted by the slope of the foot saver.
